How stupid and ridiculous is this?

I was up north with my friends and we were right next to a lake where our cabins were. There were a few kayaks right next to the lake. My friend and I were gonna go kayaking to an island that was a pretty good distance from where we were, but not too far. So my friend and I went up to my friends mom and asked if we could kayak to the island (here comes the stupid part). My friends mom quoted " thats not a good idea what happens if you fall off the boat and your life jacket falls off". I was saying to myself "what the hell are you smoking". Then my friends grandma came in and said " its true, you could also go under water with a life jacket on". I think my friends family was on crack that day. I then tell my parents as a joke "my friends mom will probaly never cross another bridge in her life" because of what happened in Minnesota. I say that because my friends mom lives in a "what if world". With the kayak thing and lots of other things.

    That is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. I have a friend with a very protective mom too. Her mom won't let her drive at night (we're also 19) because she might hit a deer. I was talking to my dad about it one night and his response was, "is she allowed to step off the curb cuz she might get hit be the swan man. I though it was pretty funny, hope you enjoy it too.

    get a wet suit. it is almost impossible to go underwater with one on without weights
    next. learn how to do a roll and you will proberly never fall out
